Luise Easton

It is with great honor O*H*I*O Masters Swim Club bestows the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award to Luise Easton.

Luise’s swimming journey consists of personal achievements in pools and open water venues through participation in events sponsored by USMS, US Senior Games, YMCA, and US Triathlon.  Professionally, Luise promoted fitness as an aquatics teacher, swim coach, and synchronized swim coach while an employee of the Berea Schools for three decades.  As there were limited opportunities for competitive swimming as a youngster, Luise competed in the only venue available to young women of her day: synchronized swimming.  Once competitive swimming became an option, she ‘dove in’ and hasn’t stopped yet, now competing in her 80’s. Luise started competing in Masters Swimming in her late 40’s and by age 48, earned her first of 69 (as of this writing) individual USMS Top 10 finishes.

Luise is a regular participant in competitions where she has excelled across each USMS age group from age 40 to age 84.*  Luise travels the world to experience more challenging races, including several USMS Nationals, the Alcatraz Swim, National Senior Games, and the World Triathlon Games in Spain. At age 79, she competed in the International Triathlon Union Multisport World Championships Festival in Denmark, placing first in the aquathlon discipline for her age group (1-kilometer swim followed by a 5k run.)

In addition to her Top 10 rankings, among her notable honors, are 16 All American (1 Individual and 5 Relay Pool, 12 Long Distance Open Water (10 Individual and 2 Relay), and one Long Distance All-Star Award.  Most recently, Luise was recognized by the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission with the 5 Star Senior Athlete Award. **

O*H*I*O has largely benefited with Luise as a member because she sets a motivational example.  She shows sportsmanship and a positive attitude, actively encouraging others in the swimming community with her personal story and often calls upon her professional experience to help them with technique.  Many of her protégées have moved on to compete in sanctioned events.  In addition, Luise is currently serves as a trustee on the Ohio Masters Board of Directors.
